Bio


Gitendra Rajiyah, MD, is a double-board-certified internal medicine physician and cardiologist at The Heart Center of the Oranges, PA, serving patients at the East Orange, New Jersey, office on Evergreen Place. The practice also has offices in West Orange, South Orange, Maplewood, Newark, and Bloomfield, New Jersey. 

Dr. Rajiyah studied at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, earning his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). He then spent several years gaining experience in internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, neurology, geriatrics, and psychology.

In 1988, Dr. Rajiyah enrolled at the University of London in the United Kingdom and completed an internal medicine and psychiatry fellowship at the University College Hospital. He moved to the United States the following year and completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) in Newark.

Dr. Rajiyah also spent one year as a dedicated researcher under the guidance of Timothy Reagan, MD, chairman of the Division of Cardiology at New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) Rutgers Health. He also completed a cardiology fellowship, serving patients at several hospitals throughout New Jersey. 

Dr. Rajiyah is board-certified in cardiology and internal medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC). He’s also a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the British Medical Association, and the Sri Lanka Medical Association. 

While Dr. Rajiyah specializes in internal medicine and cardiology, he also has a special interest in gastroenterology. He is very active in the New Jersey medical community and serves on the Critical Care Committee at East Orange General Hospital and served as chief of cardiology there between 2005-2009.
